Son of Timothy & Mary Lyon. Worked as a cloth dresser in Hopkinton, NY. Moved to Lyons, MI, 1836 & operated a hotel. Held several local offices. Acted as superintendent of lighthouses on Lake Michigan. Moved to Grand Rapids, 1840, operating another hotel & business. Postmaster at Grand Rapids 1845-49, 1853-57.
