Biographical Sketch:
Of English descent. Son of Stephen Mack. Andrew was a captain in the ocean merchant service. In 1804, he drove a flock of merino sheep over the Cumberland mountains and established a woolen factory in Cincinatti, OH. He was a colonel during the War of 1812. He was a Superintendent of Light Houses; from 1829-39, he was the collector of customs of the port in Detroit. In 1830 he opened the Mansion Hotel; in 1832 he became part owner of the Democratic Free Press; and in 1834 he was mayor of Detroit.
