Suffered 2 strokes and was bed ridden for 2 years. Died in a nursing home in March, 1966, exact date not known.
Notable Facts:
Came to Michigan in 1919. Served in the Senate from 1949-60. Known as the "Voice" because of his booming delivery. Known for traditionally closing the sessions for the Senate. Served as senate president pro tem. Served as president of the village of Hillman (7 terms), member of the county draft board (5 years), county director of Civilian Defense, and disaster chairman of the American Red Cross, county chairman of the Veterans Council. Member of the Elks, Eagles, Rotary Club, and on the board of directors of the Michigan Crippled Children Society.
