Biographical Sketch:
Son of Jeremy & Sarah (Hodgman) Miller; of English descent. Became a teacher at 18; entered Kimball & Union Academy at 20. After an illness emigrated to Michigan in 9/1830; by 1831 settled in Grand Blanc; late 1831 bought land in Saginaw area; moved to Portsmouth, MI (now part of Bay City , 1836. Attempted to set up a sawmill there in 1837 when the economy crashed. Held many local offices including probate judge for Saginaw Co., 1835-44; justice of the peace 1835-48.
