Son of Thomas and Jane (Villers dit St. Lewis)Settled in Detroit in 1819; In 1836, in company with Richard Godfroy, he made a business venture at Grand Rapids, which was mercantile, milling and buying furs. The firm built a steamer, the Gov. Mason, the loss of which, with a cargo of furs, proved so disastrous that he returned to Detroit and located on Grosse Isle, where he owned and managed a farm, and was also interested in the fisheries thereabout. He was for many years a leading citizen, and served his township as Supervisor and Justice of the Peace. He was a 'dealer in lime' at the time of his death
