Biographical Sketch:
He was the son of Daniel B. Loomis and Electa Sherman. Moved with his family to Rochester, NY, 1829; operated a general store at 16. Dry goods merchant for 4 yrs beginning in 1838. Arrived in Jackson, MI, 1843. Operated the Kennedy Mill from 1850-54. In 1856 he established the banking firm of Loomis & Whitall, later called P.B. Loomis & Co. He was president of the Jackson Gas Company. Involved in railroad ventures, president and treasurer of the Jackson and Ft. Wayne Railroad Company. chief of the Fire Department, and Alderman. Affiliated with the Episcopal church for a time. Served as mayor of Jackson & held other local offices.
