Biographical Sketch:
He was a teacher in the Byron Center Public School system for 37 years, including courses in government, economics, health and physical education. He is a Red Cross instructor, taught swimming through the YMCA and trained teachers and staff members in CPR and first aid. Coaching was also a big part of Hooker's life, including over 20 years as a high school football coach and 37 years as wrestling coach. He was a member of the board of deacons at Heritage Baptist Church for over 18 years and served on the board of directors of a Christian Youth camp for 21 years and was summer director for 9. He and his wife Pam led an at-risk teen bus ministry in their church, and both were active volunteers for the Pregnancy Resource Center and Right to Life. He was a volunteer Little League baseball and youth football coach.
