Robinson demonstrated interscholastic academic and athletic promise. He studied for the priesthood for 2.5 years; later returned home to finish high school and to write for a local newspaper Academically, he was a national essay award winner. Athletically, he was Team Captain and a catcher for the baseball team. In football, he was a quarterback and in basketball he was a point guard; a goal tender for the hockey team. Robinson was Class president during his He was a scholarship recipient of baseball [for a time] and debate teams. He was an active athlete; handball and baseball. He performed in several plays at University of Notre Dame and St. Mary’s College. Robinson was a University of Notre Dame oratorical champion. Awarded Best collegiate male actor in state of Indiana. He served in the Marines for 3 year; 5 years as a Reserve Officer. Robinson delivered newspapers on 3 different routes. He was a columnist for 2 Dearborn weeklies. Other early jobs: carry out boy, ice cream packer, and he delivered pharmaceuticals; Ford Motor Company; Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit; and Metropolitan Detroit Development Authority Past officer and executive board member of the Dearborn Democratic Club.
