Biographical Sketch:
Son of James Irving and Lula Charlotte (Rivenburg) Slingerlend. Of French/Scottish/Canadian/Dutch ancestry Raised in Mecosta & Antrim Counties. As a student he acted as a correspondent for 3 daily newspapers; received academic scholarships for post secondary education. Extracurricular activities included efforts to consolidate one roomscholls; building a summer camp for underpriveledged children; editing papers and magazines and numerous jobs. He taught school from 1938-42 in Remus, La Porte and Perry; 1942 he was a chemical analyst for American Smelting & Refining; 1942-53 he held various positions in the Detroit manufacturing industries; 1953-64 he was an engineer doing research and development in Highland Park, MI. He was an engineer for U.S. Rubber for 12 years and for Chysler Corp. for 11 years. He served on the Community Council and the Recreation Commission in Ecorse Twp.
