Of English and Scotch descent. Son of Thomas Read and Jane (Davidson) Read. He served as township clerk in Shelby. Lieutenant Governor of Michigan 1921-1924 & 1935-36. Member of Rotary, Shriners, Freemasons, Scottish Rite Masons
