Of English and Scotch descent. Son of Thomas and Jane (Davidson) Read. He opened a law office in Shelby. He served as township clerk in Shelby; Lieutenant Governor of Michigan 1921-1924 & 1935-36. Member of Rotary, Shriners, Freemasons, Scottish Rite Masons
Notable Facts:
The Detroit News 4/18/1962 reported that he had died in Grand Rapids; Find-a-Grave and Political Graveyard say he died 4/7/1962 in Kalamazoo. The elementary school in his hometown of Shelby is named for Read.
