Son of Louis H. and Mary (Dora) Truettner. He moved to Bessemer in 1888. In 1899, he entered the employ of the First National Bank of Bessemer as clerk and bookkeeper, rising to the office of vice - president. He was a Mason. He served several terms as alderman,15 years on the board of education and 8 years on the board of supervisors, 3 years as chairman.
