Biographical Sketch:
His family moved to Grant County, WI in 1857, then to Hancock, MI in 1861. He began working in the old Quincy Mill at age 11. He worked for his father (who became the mining captain of the Schoolcraft mine in 1868) until he reached the age of 21 when he became a timberman for the Calumet and Hecla Mining Co., where he worked for 18 years, later being employed as superintendent of underground operations at the Wolverine, the Tower mine, Minnesota; the Cincinnati mine on the Mesaba range and the Arcadian Copper Co. In 1901, he was made superintendent and managing director of the Mass Consolidated Mining Co. he remained at Mass Consolidated for 10 years.
He served as supervisor of Greenland Twp, Ontonagon County and as chairman of the board.
