Biographical Sketch:
Son of Abner and Sarah Cheney. Moved to Homer, Calhoun Co., MI with his father in 1845. He enlisted in the 21st Michigan Infantry in September 1862, as a quartermaster sargent; promoted to 2nd Lt in 1864; mustering out in June 1865. He was severly wounded March 1865, in North Carolina while commanding Co. B of his regiment. After the war, he lived in Sparta, MI, engaging in various businesses, real estate, horticulture etc.
