Biographical Sketch:
He moved to Michigan in 1837. Beginning in 1846 he was involved in the copper mines of Ontonagon, Keweenaw, houghton and Isle Royal counties as a superintendent. he was commissioner for Michigan to the New Orleans Exposition. he was considered one of the pioneers of Lake Superior; he was a member of the geological surveying party lead by Douglas Houghton.

Died in office, 1886; cause of death was pneumonia.
