Biographical Sketch:
Dillmann was born in Friederhshalen, Wurttmemberg in 1830, before the unification of the German states into one nation. He emigrated to Buffalo, NY in 1849 working as a tanner. settling in Detroit in 1853, he started aleather and finding store. He enlisted at the rank of captain in Co. A of the 2nd Michigan Infantry at the outbreak of the Civil War in 1861. In March, 1862, he was promoted to major and then made Lt. Colonel in July of 1862. In 1863, Dillmann resigned and settled in Detroit, where he opened the Hotel Mauch. He also engaged in the wine trade. elected to represent Wayne County in the state legislature in 1877-78, dillmann also was a candidate for State Land Commissioner and for Auditor General. He was a Democrat.

Notable Facts:
He participated in many battles during the Civil War, including the Federal attacks in Kentucky on Morgan's Raiders.
