He moved to Marshall, MI in 1835 and to Kalamazoo in 1844. He served on the Board of Trustees and treasurer of the Michigan Female Seminary for over 8 years. He was on the village board of trustees as well. He was one of the directors and secretary of the Kalamazoo Paper Co. he was a hardware merchant.
