Biographical Sketch:
Son of Abraham and Polly (Phillips) Sawyer. He taught from the ages of 18-25. He moved to Michigan in1857; was admitted to the bar in 1860. He served in various township offices and held many practices with successful partners. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity, the Lodge at Chelsea, the Maccabees, and the Elks.

Beakes (W) notates his birth in Mottsville, NY [as does Find-a-Grave.com]; 1897 Manual says Caroline, NY. He spent two months in the famous electric sugar case in New York City. He introduced a bill to build a home for wayward girls that resulted in the industrial school for girls at Adrian. Died of apoplexy
