Biographical Sketch:
His family moved to the Hamilton, Madison Co., NY area when he was 4. he was raised on a farm and began teaching school at 15. He engaged in agriculture during the summer and teaching and studying in the winter until he graduated from Madison University in Hamilton at 23. In May, 1857, he completed a 3 year course in theology and was ordained. He preached in New York, Ohio and Owosso. He was at the front during the Civil War in Richmond and Petersburg. Ill health caused him to stop preaching after 17 years.
