Biographical Sketch:
He moved with his parents, Nelson M. W. and Harriet Newell (Sutton) Turner, to Hillsdale County, MI, in 1851. In 1860, he enlisted as a private in the 1st Michigan Sharpshooters; was promoted to a captaincy and was captured at the mine explosion in front of Petersburg, VA. After the war, he moved to Ingham county and studied law with Hon . H. L. Henderson. He was elected clerk of Ingham county in 1866 and 1868. He was chairman of the Republican county committee 8 years. In 1877, he moved to Roscommon County, where he remained, practicing law and dealing in Michigan and Arkansas pine lands. Served as Michigan's Auditor General.
