Biographical Sketch:
Eldest of 9 children. Son of Erastus & Phoebe (Arnold). At 17, moved with his family to settle the Grand River Valley, Easton, Ionia Co., MI, 1833. In 1859, he was appointed one of the commissioners to lay out the Ionia, Houghton Lake and Mackinaw State Road. He held various county & twp offices, and was director of the First National Bank of Ionia.

Delegate to the 1867 State Constitutional Convention.
His was the first family to settle in the region of Ionia Co. in 1833.
