Son of Patrick and Eleanor Campbell. His parents were born in Ireland. He moved to Marshall, MI in 1852. He was admitted to the bar in May, 1872. He served as city reporter from 1866-70 and city attorney in 1873 and 1876. He was living in Grand Rapids, MI in 1900.
