Biographical Sketch:
Son of Sanford and Phebe (Barker)Carleton. He moved to St. Clair township in 1866. His family moved to Washington Co., NY when he was 7. He moved to St. Clair Co., MI in 1866. He taught for 10 winters. He served as township supervisor for 13 years (first elected in 1869), county assessor for 1 year and was chairman of this board for 3 years. He represented his county on the State Equalization Board in 1866 and 1878.
