Biographical Sketch:
He became a court clerk from age 15-20. He then emigrated, arriving in Detroit May 18th, 1846. A year later, he went to Perry Co., OH to attend college, returning to Detroit June, 1849 and established a select school which he maintained until 1852. In 1850, he opened and office for the international business, making foreign exchanges, dealing in real estate, negotiating loans, etc. He was elected justice of the peace in 1859, serving until 1868; also served as alderman, school inspector and member of the board of estimates.
