Biographical Sketch:
Eldest son of Henry Holt of CT & Lorncy (Potter)[or Lucrecia Deforest of RI] of NY. Related to the Roger Williams, founder of RI. Came to Kent County, MI, 1852. 1855, studied law in Poughkeepsie, NY but earned his degree at Union Law College in Cleveland,OH; admitted to the bar 1857 and returned the Grand Rapids, MI area to practice. Moved to Muskegon, MI, 1858; prosecuting attorney for Ottawa & Muskegon Counties. Elected mayor of Muskegon 1878 & 1879. Also held many other local offices.

Notable Facts:
Member of the 1867 Constitutional Convention Elected Lt. Governor in 1872 and 1874. Second Republican mayor of Muskegon.
