Biographical Sketch:
He emigrated at age 8, arriving in New York 12/14/1852. They moved from New York to Detroit, MI in the spring of 1854. He enlisted in in the military at 17, first with the 19th Infantry, stationed at Fort Wayne. When the Civil War began, he joined the 7th Michigan Infantry. He later enter the grocery business. He was elected Springwells superintendent of schools in spring 1878. He was admitted to the bar in 1886. He served as justice of the peace for about 20 years and on the township board of Springwells. Member of the Odd Fellows, the German Arbeiter Society, the Masons, the A. O. U. W. [Ancient Order of United Workmen], the K. O. T. M. [Maccabees] and the G.A. R.
