Biographical Sketch:
Of English descent. Son of Thomas C. and Elizabeth (Shear) May. He began his mercantile career at 25; at 27 he went into railroad contracting until 1872. That year, he moved to Clam Lake [later called Cadillac) where he returned to mercantile activities. He served as village treasurer and trustee, county superintendent of the poor and as a Cadillac City Board of Education member.
