Son of Peter Werden Dean and Philinder (Willey) Dean. First elected Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney, 1861-62; served as Pentwater township clerk, 1861; major in the Union Army during the Civil War [Co. I, 6th Michigan, Cavalry,1862. Major, 11/11/1863, wounded at Shepherdstown,VA, 8/24/1864; resigned 1/5/1865] ; village president, Pentwater, MI, 1867. He was living in Chicago in 1880 and in Antigo, IN in 1900. He was a member of the bar and the Masons.
