Biographical Sketch:
Of Scotch descent. Son of Edmund F. and Cynthia M.(Stevens) Culver. At the age of 14, he entered the Detroit police department where he did office work for 9 years while studying law. Admitted to the bar in 1893. He practiced law in his native city and chief assistant prosecuting attorney of Wayne County. In 1900, ill health forced a career change for a time. Engaged in the publishing business as publisher and editor of the Little Stick, weekly satirical newspaper devoted to practical reform through education, and also of the Springwells Tribune.
