Biographical Sketch:
Grew up in Bethel & Plattsburg, NY. Learned the machinist trade in Poughkeepsie between 1831 & 1837. Moved to Grass Lake, MI in 1837 and for 20 years installed running works in flouring mills in SE Michigan. In 1857 moved to Hillsdale & engaged in the hide & leather trade until 1883.Dir. of the 2nd National Bank of Hillsdale after 1865 & dir. of Hillsdale Savings Bank. A Whig then a Republican.

Notable Facts:
Elected to replace Harvey Rowlson who resigned from the House in 1870.
