Of Enlish descent. Son of David and Hannah (Tarbox) Bacon. Grew up on a farm; studied surveying. As a young man he purchased a farm in Chautauqua Co., NY. He acquired land in Lenawee Co., MI in 1828. He was a captain in the New York State Militia from 1822-24.In about 1834, he moved to Ontwa, MI. He served on the Ontwa Board of Supervisors for many years; a magistrate for 20 years; and an associate judge
