Biographical Sketch:
Eldest child of Jonathan & Mary (Carpenter) Baldwin. Raised by an uncle in Canterbury, CT. Printer for the Buffalo Bulletin earlier in his career. Emigrated to Oakland Co., MI 11/12/1837. School inspector for Bloomfield, 1840. Admitted to the bar, 1842. Practiced law in Milford, MI. Moved to Pontiac in 1849, mayor of Pontiac, MI, 1874. ; Oakland Co. Prosecutor 1853-54; on the bd of ed. in Pontiac for 18yrs. In Congress, 1863-65. Held several other prominent positions.Judge of the 6th judicial circuit ct. of Michigan 1875-April 15, 1880. A Mason & Knight Templar.
Notable Facts:
1846-1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of the State Militia.
His library was donated to the Michigan Military Academy in Orchard Lake.
