Biographical Sketch:
Of English ancestry. Son of Abner Barlow. Moved to Canandaigua, NY at the age of 8. Served as captain of a New York company in the War of 1812; moved to Barry Co., MI in 1837. He was supervisor of Yankee Springs Township, 1840. Served as assoc. judge. Also in 1840, with his son Nathan Jr. erected a sawmill at the outlet of Barlow lake.

Per MIBiog born in Vermont in 1785. 1850 Census gives birth place as Massachusetts. Exact date not known; also states dod Jan. 25, 1899, but this is likely the death date for his son, Nathan, jr. Died in 1853 per SAR application of descendant Oran F. Rudeau; 1854 in other sources. Father of state Rep. Nathan Barlow, jr. Father-in-law of Rep./Sen. Henry A. Goodyear.
