Biographical Sketch:
Son of John & Anna Barnes; descended from John Barnes who landed at Plymouth Rock. Family moved to Aurelius, Ingham Co., MI in 1837; studied law, graduated from U of MI (1850) and got admitted to the bar in 1851. After the death of the Ingahm County prosecuting attorney he was appointed to fill the vacancy in 1852 and was re-elected in 1854. Retired from law in 1871. Land commissioner for a railroad company. Mayor of Lansing in 1877. He was president of a national bank in Lansing. Member of the Masons and a Knight Templar.
