Biographical Sketch:
Of German descent. Son of Peter and Elizabeth (Born) Gayde. As a boy, he worked on a farm; later was a butcher's helper for 2 years. He worked in his father's store at age 16 until January 9, 1899 when he and his brother purchased the stock and formed a co-partnership under the name of Gayde Brothers, dealing in groceries, crockery and hardware. He served 1 term as clerk of the village of Plymouth; 1 term as trustee of the same; 3 terms as clerk of Plymouth township; and 10 years as a member of the board of cemetery trustees for the village of Plymouth. Member of the Masons, Knights Templar,Eastern Star and Shriners
