Biographical Sketch:
Son of George W. and Alice (Stewart) Hopkins. He spent his early life in woods working with his father in the manufacture of lumber. He conceived the idea of using cut-over land for agricultural purposes. In 1888, he began clearing, stumping and fencing, eventually having 800 acres under cultivation. Before being elected to the legislature he was the Farmers' Institute lecturer at Michigan Agricultural College. He was president of the Manistee Horticultural Society

Notable Facts:
Donated land that became Hopkins Park in Bear Lake.. A pioneer in bringing college extension courses to Michigan and North and South Dakota.
