Biographical Sketch:
Of English descent; family came to America, 1830. Fitch was the 13th of 14 children of Joel & Hulda (Dean). He engaged i the mercantile business in Friendhip, NY in 1854; in 1857, he moved to Brockway, PA in the same business. Lived in Calif. from 1862-1868. He was appointed Provost Marshall of San Mateo County, CA, 1863. In 1868 relocated to Colfax, MI. Later moved to Big Rapids. Year of death may be 1889-Crossman did not make year clear. Died from injuries of a fall precipitated by apoplexy.
