Biographical Sketch:
Of Scottish descent. Son of Harper & Roxy or Roxana (Belknap) Richardson. He moved to Ipswich, MA in 1832 and worked in a cotton factory for seven yrs.; later became overseer in a fabric factory in Palmer, MA, 8 years. Commissioned an officer in Company E, Michigan 7th Infantry Regiment on 22 Aug 1861. Promoted to Full Major on 27 Mar 1862. Mustered out on 25 May 1862. Promoted to Full Lt Colonel on 01 Feb 1863. Commissioned an officer in Company S, Michigan 27th Infantry Regiment on 01 Feb 1863. Mustered out on 16 Dec 1863. Moved to Tuscola, MI in 1847 and built a saw mill which he operated until 1877 when he erected a flouring mill as well as a sash and blind factory. He served as townhsip supervisor from 1859-62 and 1865-68 and more, totally 17 years in that position. Owned 2 farms near Tuscola.
