Biographical Sketch:
Son of Theodore and Anna Romeyn. Studied law with his father, passing his law exam in 1860. Served in the Army of the Potomac as Sr. Aide on the staff of the General commanding the 1st Div. of the 9th Army Corps with a commission in the 4th Michigan Infantry. Achieved the state rank of Colonel. held the rank of major and colonel in the state troops. Served on the Detroit Board of Education for 6 yrs. In 1886 he was appointed Consul at Valparaiso, Chile, for 4 years by Persident Cleveland. On his return he resided in New York.
Notable Facts:
Served in both chambers.
Developed pneumonia and died after marching in the rain in General Sherman's funeral procession.
