Biographical Sketch:
He moved to Schoolcraft Township, Kalamazoo Co., with his parents, John D. and Nancy (McPherson) Brown, at age 11 in 1830. Served as first master of the State Grange when it was formed and was its treasurer until December 1884 [10 years]. Member of the Patrons of Husbandry (Grange); president of the Pioneer Society of Kalamazoo County.

Notable Facts:
Served in both chambers. In the summer of 1885 the state senate presented him with a gold headed cane as a testimonial to his high character and his great and continued public services.
