Biographical Sketch:
3rd son of Benjamin & Freelove (Sanford) Woodruff. Began to study to be a tailor at age 12, becoming a journeyman tailor at 17. At 20, he settled in Flat Rock, MI in 1833. Moved to East Saginaw in 1855 and remained there until 1871. He had sawmills for several yrs; later sold staves & was a lumber inspector. Elected Sheriff of Saginaw Co., 1860. 1862 raised Co. B of the 23rd Michigan Volunteer Infantry; served as captain for 2 years 3 months, mustered out with a disability, 1864. In 1871, he moved to Farwell, Clare Co., MI & built a hotel. Elected probate judge 1871-72 and was sheriff and supervisor.

Chairman of the Comm. on Public Lands; member of the Committees on Private Corporations; Lumber and Salt. Key figure in the organization of Clare Co.
