Meekhof was the past council vice president of Ottawa Reformed Church. He was a former operations direct of Midwest Service Center of Hudson Lock, and the past president of Borculo Christian School Board. He was active with Lakeshore Pregnancy Center, Right to Life, Michigan Family Forum, and Promise Keepers. He was a member of Olive Township Board of Trustees. He was elected Senate Majority Leader for the 2015-2018 term.
