Biographical Sketch:
He moved to Michigan with his parents, William H. and Catharine (Wiley) Utley, in 1828. he learned a trade in Lansing and moved to Newaygo County in 1850. He served as county clerk, 1859-63. He built the first bridge across the Muskegon River a Croton, in 1850. He served as a magistrate, as town treasurer and was town clerk of Big Prairie for 32 years

Notable Facts:
He was a Whig until 1854 when he became a Republican. In 1876 he became a Greenbacker. Death certificate gives birth and death dates as 11/6/1828 and 7/18/1910; MIBiog says 11/6/1827 and 7/19/1909
