Biographical Sketch:
He was a clerk for several years. He resided at Oswego, NY, from 1819 to 1846, and a part of the time was Deputy Collector at Oswego. He settled at DeWitt, MI in 1848., He engaged in milling and the mercantile business. He served as a Supervisor for 5 years and was Sheriff of Saginaw County in 1858-9. He moved to Vermillion, Dakota in 1863, where he was a member of the Territorial Council for 11 years. From 1869 to 1873, he was Superintendent of Public Instruction in Dakota

State representative in Dakota. Turner County, South Dakota was named for him.
