Biographical Sketch:
He came to DeWitt, MI, in 1838 and engaged in mercantile business. He later studied law with Joab Baker. He was County Commissioner of Clinton County in 1841; Register of Deeds; Supervisor of DeWitt and County Judge in 1846. He went to California in 1851 and was Collector of the Port of Sacramento under President Pierce. He was Circuit Judge of the Sacramento judicial circuit for 12 years.
