Biographical Sketch:
Of English ancestry. Son of Josiah and Eveline E. (Ellsworth) Turner. His family moved to Howell, MI around 1839. After graduating he read law at the offices of Judge F.C. Whipple and was admitted to the bar. He moved to Owosso in 1860. He enlisted as a First Lieutenant in the 30th Michigan infantry in Nov. 1864, resigning in April 1865. He was appointed Adjutant of the Thirtieth Michigan Infantry, in 1863 and First Assistant Paymaster in the United States Army, in 1864, for 2 years, with headquarters at Louisville, KY. He served as a postal inspector for a district comprised of 6 states; mayor of Owosso [1879]
