Biographical Sketch:
Son of James P. and Margaret (Marcell or Parsell) Townsend. He came to Michigan in 1869. He then taught in high school at Alpena for 3 years when he entered the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Chicago, and later, Louisville Medical College. He practiced in Jackson County until 1908, when he was elected county clerk and served 4 years and served as deputy county clerk for 6 years, retiring January 1,1921.
