Biographical Sketch:
Came to Detroit 11/1834 wintering there & at Farmington before claiming land in the Grand River Valley near Ionia, 1836. Worked as a carpenter until 1844; manufactured fanning-mills for 20 yrs. Also involved in several other businesses. Went to Calif., 1850-51. Made Marshall of the Western District of Michigan by Lincoln but ousted by Andrew Johnson. Held several local offices.
