He worked in a jewelry store in Detroit for 6 years, then located in Chicago, where he remained for 12 years, returned to Detroit and engaged in the jewelry business. He served 2 terms as president of the local club of retail dealers and 2 terms as president of the Michigan State Retail Jewelers' Association. He was president of St. Marks Lutheran Young Men's Club.
