Biographical Sketch:
Moved to Penn Yan, NY with his parents, Griffith and ?? Thomas, as a child. In 1835, they moved to Farmington, MI. He was a partner in a mercantile business and they purchased land in Lansing in 1847. They opened a sstore on the east side of the Grand River, selling goods for 6 years. They also built the Benton, later known as the Everett house. Lansing's first post office was in their store. He returned to Farmington in 1852.

Notable Facts:
Cowles says that he died in Lansing, at the Hudson House hotel.
