Biographical Sketch:
Of Dutch ancestry. Arrived in Detroit in 1801 and was a merchant there for 25 years but had a farm in Dearborn. He served as county treasurer, 1817-25. He resign from his senate seat, in 1836, to become the first U.S. Marshall for Michigan until 1841. He built the Old TenEyck Tavern in Dearborn in 1819
